Announcing New BIPOC Scholarships

For the first time ever, five full scholarships to the 2023 Washington Writers Conference, the DC-area’s premier writing event, will be awarded to writers from BIPOC communities!

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be able to attend in person on May 12-13 in Rockville, MD. Scholarship recipients will have access to all activities, including panels, lunch, the keynote address (by Dolen Perkins-Valdez, the bestselling author of Take My Hand), and agent pitch sessions (if desired).

All applications will be reviewed by the conference’s planning committee and guest authors Tara Campbell and Melanie S. Hatter; honorees will be notified no later than May 1st. (Scholarships are non-transferable and have no monetary value.)

To apply, send an email by Feb. 28th to [email protected] (subject line: BIPOC Scholarship) that includes your name, address, phone number, social media/website, and responses to the following:

1. Describe your writing experience. Include any publications, awards, and relevant educational experiences.

2. How would attending the Washington Writers Conference help you, as a BIPOC writer, achieve your writing goals? Be specific (250 words or fewer).

Questions? Email [email protected].
