Why we hope to see you at this year's conference!

A Note from Our Chair

Dear Writers,

This is Audrey Bastian, chair of the 2019 Washington Writers Conference, sponsored by the Washington Independent Review of Books. As I sit here writing chapter 17 of my own book and watching the snowflakes fall with a warm mug nearby, I want to cordially invite you to this year’s conference at our new venue at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in North Bethesda, MD.

We’ll begin on Friday evening, May 10th, with drinks and conversation. Later, agents will advise, and sometimes disagree, on how to break into the publishing market.

The next day, May 11th, you’ll be able to pitch your work to an agent (or simply ask one for advice), as well as enjoy a full array of author/editor/expert talks, panels, book sales, and lunch (during which bestselling author Jeffery Deaver will deliver our keynote address).

New this year: Ask a developmental editor how to navigate through a section of your manuscript or how to hire an editor of your own. Also new: Meet people who share your interests at special “topic tables” and/or hear authors discuss various genres — and sign books — in our Reading Room.

Finally, wind down Saturday afternoon over drinks with novelists (and Independent columnists) E.A. Aymar and Tara Laskowski.

We designed this year’s conference to help you take your idea — at whatever stage it may be — to publication. Please click here to register now at the Early-Bird rate. Remember: Proceeds from our conference help support the nonprofit Independent!

Warm Regards,

Audrey
