Meet Jerry Mitchell

  • February 14, 2020

The author of Race Against Time comes to DC on Mon., Feb. 17th, at 7PM!

Meet Jerry Mitchell

A multi-award-winning reporter and founder of the Mississippi Center for Investigative Reporting, Mitchell has spent much of his thirty-four-year career working to reopen four cold cases from the civil rights era. In this powerful memoir, he chronicles how his unstinting search for long-lost documents, witnesses, and suspects led to the reopening of legal proceedings concerning the assassination of Medgar Evans, the firebombing of Vernon Dahmer, the 16th Street Church bombing in Birmingham, and the 1964 Mississippi Burning case. Especially pivotal to the last, Mitchell succeeded in having the crime’s mastermind brought to trial and convicted 41 years after Klansmen killed three civil rights workers.
