East City Bookshop is proud to partner with Hill Center DC for a discussion of New York Times bestselling author Alex Kershaw’s recently published book, Against All Odds, moderated by Kelly Kennedy, an award-winning journalist and former U.S. Army soldier.

About Alex Kershaw

Alex Kershaw is the author of numerous books on World War II, including the New York Times bestsellers The Bedford Boys and The Longest Winter. His 2012 book, The Liberator: One World War II Soldier’s 500-Day Odyssey from the Beaches of Sicily to the Gates of Dachau was made into a drama series aired by Netflix in 2020. A graduate of University College, Oxford, England, Kershaw’s journalism has appeared in many magazines and newspapers since 1990, and he has also worked as a screenwriter and in television, penning an award-winning 2004 documentary on Bobby Kennedy. He is an honorary colonel in the 116th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division.

Kelly Kennedy, an award-winning journalist, was embedded in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and served as Military Reporters & Editors’ first female president. She is the only American woman to have both served in combat in the U.S. Army in the Middle East and Mogadishu, Somalia and covered U.S. combat as a civilian. Kennedy is the bestselling author of They Fought for Each Other: The Triumph and Tragedy of the Hardest Hit Unit in Iraq, and the co-author of Kate Germano’s Fight Like a Girl: The Truth Behind how Female Marines are Trained. She now edits and ghostwrites books, and serves as the managing editor for the War Horse.
