Meet Kyle Swenson

  • February 11, 2019

The author of Good Kids, Bad City: A Story of Race and Wrongful Conviction in America comes to DC on Wed., Feb. 13th, at 7PM!

Meet Kyle Swenson

In this compelling, unsettling, and important book, Swenson tells a true story of wrongful conviction that lays bare the shocking state of Cleveland’s criminal justice system as well as the nation’s. The account starts in the early 1970s with the arrest of three Black men for robbery and murder. The case against them was based almost solely on the questionable testimony of one pre-teenager who finally recanted his testimony almost 40 years later. As Swenson, an investigative journalist for the Washington Post, recreates the still unsolved crime and the trial of the three accused men, he interweaves a narrative of Cleveland’s troubled social history, one replete with discrimination, racial tensions, and municipal decay.
