Meet Ibram X. Kendi

MahoganyBooks is thrilled to host #1 New York Times bestselling author and scholar Ibram X. Kendi as he discusses his adaptation of Zora Neale Hurston’s Barracoon for young readers. This adaptation gives young readers a well done introduction to the true-life story of Cudjo Lewis, one of the last-known survivors of the Atlantic slave trade — abducted from Africa on the last “Black Cargo” ship to arrive in the United States. We encourage families to bring any young people in their life to this monumental event, highlighting important Black American history. We are excited to include the DC Public Library and the DC Public Library Foundation as preeminent partners of this event.

  • 6:30 PM - Doors Open | 7:00 PM Conversation Begins.
  • Masks optional throughout event.

Hosted by MahoganyBooks at the MLK Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G St., NW, Washington, DC. Learn more here.
