The author of Black Boy Smile: A Memoir in Moments comes to Frederick, MD, on Thurs., July 7th, at 7 p.m.

Meet D. Watkins

Join us as we welcome D. Watkins back to Frederick! He'll discuss his new book, Black Boy Smile. This event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

Black Boy Smile is the story of a Black boy who healed. This is a story not just for boys but challenges anyone to reflect on the rippling effects of toxic masculinity on ourselves, our families, our peers, and ultimately our society. It is a story that rewrites the generalized notions of Black male youth and presents it with a smile.

D. Watkins is the New York Times-bestselling author of four books and editor-at-large for Salon. His work has been published in the New York Times, New York Times Magazine, the Guardian, Rolling Stone, and other publications. Watkins is a writer for the HBO series "We Own This City." He is a college lecturer at the University of Baltimore and is the recipient of numerous literary awards. He lives in Baltimore with his wife and daughter.

Hosted by Curious Iguana at the Community Room at ERUCC, 15 W. Church St., Frederick, MD. Learn more here.
