Gearing Up For Gaithersburg

The 4th annual Gaithersburg Book Festival is this Saturday, May 18. Here at the Independent, we are gearing up for what’s become one of the most exciting literary events of the season, and one that we are proud to partner with this year. There’s a handy one-page schedule of author events here; with more than 100 authors in attendance, there will be something for everyone!

The Independent has reviewed books and interviewed authors you’ll see at the festival; to take a look, click the links. We will also be out in force at the festival. You’ll see some of us introducing authors and moderating panels. We’ll be conducting video interviews with authors, which will appear here on our site over the coming weeks. We’ll be tweeting during the festival. We will also have an exhibitors booth. Please come by and say hello! We’ll be raffling off books and giving away bookmarks. We are also looking for more volunteers, so if you think you’d like to get involved and want to learn more, this is a chance to meet us and see what opportunities are available.

I’m in the process of planning my own day at the festival: I can’t miss the baritone Ben Percy discussing Red Moon, or Ron Charles in conversation with Adam Mansbach (Rage Is Back), or MTV VJ Nina Blackwood talking about the station’s early years, or listening to Daniel Hernandez, Jr. recount his experiences with Rep. Gabby Giffords that fateful day in Tucson, or ...

You get the picture. I clearly have some choices to make. What are you most looking forward to on Saturday? Whatever it is, we at the Independent are looking forward to seeing you in Gaithersburg!
