This personalized service explains why this indie bookshop — which caters to a mostly well-educated, left-leaning crowd — has thrived since opening its doors in 1973.
Schindhelm mentions that Jen Sincero’s You Are a Badass and Randall Munroe’s What If? have been selling especially well lately, not that customers are in a hurry to ring up their purchases and leave.
“Our store is filled with lots of nooks and crannies,” she says, “making it the perfect place to explore and get lost in while discovering great books.”
