Baltimore’s premier speculative fiction reading series returns with a wildly creative vengeance to usher in 2019 the right way! This month’s readers are T.C. Weber, Ruthanna Emrys, and Andy Duncan.
T. C. Weber has pursued writing and music since childhood, and learned filmmaking and screenwriting in college, along with a little bit of physics. His first published novel, Sleep State Interrupt, was a 2017 Compton Crook Finalist for best first science fiction, fantasy, or horror novel. The sequel, The Wrath of Leviathan, was released in September 2018. He is currently finishing up the final book of the trilogy, Zero-Day Rising, and is working on other books and short stories. By day, Mr. Weber works as an ecologist for a non-profit organization and has had a number of scientific papers and book chapters published. A former Baltimore resident, he now lives in Annapolis, Maryland with his wife Karen. He enjoys traveling and has visited all seven continents. Ruthanna Emrys is the author of the Innsmouth Legacy series, including Winter Tide and Deep Roots. Ruthanna also co-writes Tor.com's Lovecraft Reread series, examining the history of weird fiction with equal parts squee and snark. She writes radically hopeful short stories about religion and aliens and psycholinguistics. She is currently working on a near-future hope-punk novel about watershed management, parents juggling work/life/first contact balance, and Dyson spheres. She lives in a mysterious manor house on the outskirts of Washington, DC with her wife and their large, strange family. She makes homemade vanilla, gives unsolicited advice, and occasionally attempts to save the world.
Andy Duncan’s short fiction has won a Nebula Award, a Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award and three World Fantasy Awards. His latest book, An Agent of Utopia: New and Selected Stories, was published in November 2018 by Small Beer Press. His other recent publications include “The Devil’s Whatever” in The Book of Magic, edited by Gardner Dozois, “New Frontiers of the Mind” in Analog, and “Worrity, Worrity” in Mad Hatters and March Hares, edited by Ellen Datlow. A South Carolina native, he lives in western Maryland, where he is tenured on the writing faculty of Frostburg State University. In summer 2019, he will teach the fourth week of the Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers’ Workshop at UC-San Diego. He is a member of the board of directors of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
