The author of Squeezed: Why Our Families Can't Afford America comes to DC on Fri., June 29th, at 7PM.

Alissa Quart in Conversation with Barbara Ehrenreich

Quart’s eye-opening report on the middle-class is a troubling portrait of families sinking under the financial weight of raising children. Drawing on her years covering the challenges working parents face, Quart tells stories of people struggling to negotiate the unstable job market, high childcare costs,  limited parental leave, and the disillusioning realization that they can’t achieve the standard of living their own parents enjoyed. In these profiles Quart, the Guardian’s “Outclassed” columnist, makes the issues vivid and immediate and argues that it’s time for a cultural re-evaluation of parenthood and caregiving. Quart will be in conversation with Barbara Ehrenreich, author of the classic Nickel and Dimed, with whom she co-founded the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, a nonprofit for reporting on inequality.
