Meet Reyna Grande

  • October 10, 2018

The author of A Dream Called Home comes to DC on Fri., Oct. 12th, at 7PM.

Meet Reyna Grande

In The Distance Between Us, a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist, Grande recounted her harrowing journey from Mexico to Los Angeles, alone, at age nine. Her new memoir picks up the thread with Grande’s ambition to be the first in her family to earn a college degree. She succeeded, but her years at the University of California, Santa Cruz, meant estrangement from her family, while her return to Los Angeles reunited her with her loved ones and left her frustrated in her efforts to break into publishing at the same time. Grande persevered, and her account of her transformation from undocumented immigrant to best-selling writer is both an inspiring story of one woman’s American dream coming true and an eye-opening look at the myriad challenges migrants face in making a new home for themselves here.
