It’s an Honor to Celebrate Marita Golden

We’re excited to announce that author, activist, and teacher Marita Golden will receive our Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2022 Washington Writers Conference on May 14th in Rockville, MD! Past honorees include Grace Cavalieri, Kitty Kelley, and Eugene L. Meyer.

The award is given annually to an author who has made a longtime, significant contribution to the Washington, DC, area’s writing community, especially in ways that encourage others to become good literary citizens themselves. Novelist Melanie S. Hatter will present this year’s award.

Marita is the author of 17 works of fiction and nonfiction, including, most recently, The Strong Black Woman: How a Myth Endangers the Physical and Mental Health of Black Women. She has lectured and taught internationally and cofounded the Hurston/Wright Foundation, which has supported a global community of Black writers for three decades.

Marita’s many accolades include the Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award, the Distinguished Service Award from the Authors Guild, and induction into the International Literary Hall of Fame of Writers of African Descent at the Gwendolyn Brooks Center at Chicago State University.

Join us in honoring Marita Golden at the 2022 Washington Writers Conference, but don’t wait! Attendance is limited to 150 registrants, and we’re 75 percent sold out. REGISTER NOW!
