The 9th Hour Poetry Slam hosted by Charity Blackwell is a captivating event that promises an unforgettable evening of poetic brilliance and fierce competition. Scheduled for May 10, 2024, at 9:00 pm, this slam will take place at the iconic 14th & V location, situated at 2021 14th St NW, Washington, District of Columbia, 20009. A poetry slam is a unique and thrilling experience where poets perform their original works and are judged by members of the audience. This event, hosted by the renowned Busboys and Poetry, offers poetry enthusiasts an opportunity to witness the competitive art of late-night performance poetry at its finest. The evening will feature two rounds of high-intensity poetry, with the audience choosing the ultimate winner. The stakes are high, as the first-place winner will take home a cash prize of $100. To ensure a fair and engaging competition, the event follows a set of rules:

- Each poem must be the original work of the performing poet.
- Poets have 3 minutes and 30 seconds (plus a 10-second grace period) to perform their piece. Exceeding the time limit will result in point deductions.
- No props, costumes, or musical instruments are allowed, including the removal of clothing.
- Only one person can perform each poem.
- Poets are permitted to read from paper or electronic devices without penalty.
- Six competitors will be eliminated after the first round.

The event will be hosted by the talented Charity Blackwell, a spoken word artist, host, emcee, and poetry specialist. With years of experience contributing to the arts scene in DC and across national platforms, Charity brings a natural stage presence and charm to the event. Partial funds raised from the event will support Busboys and Poets DC Representative for the Women of the World Poetry Slam, making this event not only a celebration of poetry but also a contribution to a worthy cause. Poetry lovers and enthusiasts should mark their calendars and attend this captivating event, where they can immerse themselves in the power of words, witness fierce competition, and support the local arts community.
