The Country of the Blind is a memoir and cultural exploration by Andrew Leland, who is gradually losing his sight due to retinitis pigmentosa. It chronicles his journey from sightedness to blindness, examining the physical, linguistic, political, and social aspects of blindness. Leland navigates changing relationships and his sense of self as he transitions to a life with a disability. The book is a thought-provoking, humorous, and personal account that invites readers to consider a way of being they may never have contemplated before. It promises to be an intellectually exhilarating read. Andrew Leland is a writer whose work has appeared in various publications. He has also produced podcasts and worked as an editor. Sarah Coquillat, the host, created Bookish and Black to engage readers and promote literary discussions, with a focus on BIPOC authors and social justice.
