The East City Bookshop is hosting a hybrid event on Thursday, April 18 at 7 pm EDT featuring author Myriam J. A. Chancy in conversation with Joanne Hyppolite, Ph.D. about Chancy's new novel "The Village Weavers". The event will have both an in-person aspect with limited seating as well as a virtual broadcast via Zoom Webinar, allowing both in-person and virtual attendees to participate in the audience Q&A. East City Bookshop is continuously monitoring public health guidance, and masks are encouraged for all in-person attendees. "The Village Weavers" is an extraordinary and enduring story of two families forever joined by country and long-held secrets, and two girls with an unbreakable bond. The novel follows Gertie and Sisi, who become fast childhood friends in 1940s Port-au-Prince despite their different social and economic backgrounds. Their friendship is torn apart by a deathbed revelation, and the story traces their lives across decades and continents as they are parted and reunited. Myriam J. A. Chancy is the award-winning author of several novels, including "The Village Weavers" and "What Storm, What Thunder". Joanne Hyppolite, PhD is the Supervisory Museum Curator of the African Diaspora at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, with expertise in diasporic cultural expressions and Black immigrant American communities.
