Celebrate Women’s History Month and DC’s beloved Cherry Blossoms as author and Capitol Hill resident Stephanie Deutsch moderates a conversation with Diana Parsell about her biography Eliza Scidmore: The Trailblazing Journalist Behind Washington’s Cherry Trees. Born just before the Civil War, Scidmore broke gender barriers as a prolific Washington correspondent, a globetrotting travel writer from Alaska to Asia, and the early National Geographic’s most influential woman. Parsell, a writer and former journalist, drew heavily on Scidmore’s own writings to reveal her long-overlooked life and cherry blossom legacy.
