Join David Small, a renowned master of the graphic novel genre, at Lost City Books in Washington, DC, on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM for a visual presentation and discussion about his latest work, "The Werewolf at Dusk: And Other Stories." Known for his internationally acclaimed graphic memoir "Stitches," Small's new book explores the theme of "the dread of things internal" through three interconnected and haunting stories. The title story, an adaptation of Lincoln Michel’s classic short piece, delves into the terror of obsolescence as an impotent werewolf faces the challenges of aging. The semiautobiographical tale, "A Walk in the Old City," follows a psychoanalyst through a dreamlike old city, where reality warps into the irrational. The final story, a reinterpretation of Jean Ferry’s "The Tiger in Vogue," transports readers to 1920s Berlin, blending unsettling imagery and a dreamscape that culminates in the ominous moments before disaster. Following the visual presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A with David Small and participate in a book signing. The event promises an evening of literary exploration accompanied by wine and refreshments. Those interested can purchase the book in advance and pick up their copies at the event. Small's other works, including picture books created in collaboration with his wife, Sarah Stewart, will also be available for pickup and signing. While the event is free, attendees are encouraged to RSVP to help organizers anticipate the number of guests. Please note that Lost City Books is not wheelchair accessible, as the event is located up two flights of stairs without an elevator. Ensure an early arrival to secure a seat for this unique and insightful experience with the dark genius of David Small.
