Hosted by ECB staff, the Social Justice Book Club is a space for thoughtful conversation on issues of social justice and activism. Themes will include racial justice, immigration, LGBTQ rights, and more—we’re also open to members suggesting specific titles and topics to explore.

This book club is open to anyone who wants to join the discussion. If you'd like to participate, please email Destinee at [email protected].

About the Hosts:

Destinee joined the team in September, 2016 and has been recommending omnivorously ever since. From thrillers to narrative non-fiction to literary fiction and middle grade, if it's a good story or piques her curious mind, she'll read it and enjoy it. That said, she's most known at the store for converting unsuspecting readers to being romance book lovers and for her passion for Caribbean literature. She is currently the Book Club Coordinator, and hosts five book clubs at the store. She worked with DC Public Schools for over a decade in a variety of roles and still keeps educator book lovers close to her heart.

Ashleigh is either reading fiction for 11–18 year olds in her daytime capacity as a middle school librarian, or she's engaging with heavy and hefty nonfiction about social justice issues. She has been at ECB since 2019 and loves the eclectic group and thoughtful discussion that comes with the Social Justice Book Club!
