Road to Disaster: A New History of America’s Descent into Vietnam by renowned Vietnam scholar Brian VanDeMark, is the first history of the war that examines the decisions of the “Best and the Brightest” through the prism of the latest research in cognitive science and psychology from scholars such as Daniel Kahneman, Daniel Ariely, Richard Thaler and others to determine why they did what they did, and what the example of Vietnam can tell us about human decision-making overall. BRIAN VANDEMARK is a professor at the United States Naval Academy, where for two decades he has taught Midshipman the history of the Vietnam War.
