Details | McGuane’s first book was published in 1969, and in the ten novels, three essay collections, and three books of short stories since, he’s become the indispensable literary voice of the American West. Gathering all the stories from To Skin a Cat (1986), Gallatin Canyon (2006), and Crow Fair (2015), along with seven new works, three published here for the first time, this volume shows the range and development of McGuane’s artistry. Often focusing on outsiders, McGuane cuts to the heart of lives shaped by disappointment and loneliness, yet tells these characters’ stories with an often startling humor. He is always compassionate, always insightful, and always as attuned to the natural world as he is to human needs and desires. Theses talents have earned him prizes including the Los Angeles Times’s 2017 Robert Kirsch Award for lifetime achievement and the 2017 Heritage Award from The American Museum of Fly Fishing. This event is free to attend with no reservation required. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis. |
