Poetry Night with Anne Higgins

Sister Anne Higgins returns to the Iguana to celebrate the release of her new chapbook, Life List. Higgins is a professor at Mount St. Mary's University, a member of the Daughters of Charity, and a graduate of Saint Joseph College - Emmitsburg, Johns Hopkins University, and Washington Theological Union. She has published eight books of poetry, and nearly 100 of her poems have been published in Yankee, Commonweal, Spirituality and Health, the Melic Review, the Centrifugal Eye, and a variety of small magazines. Garrison Keillor has read two of her poems on his radio show, "The Writers Almanac." Life List, the title of Higgins's newest collection, is a term birders use to describe the record they keep of every new kind of bird they see for the first time. "This book contains many poems about birds," Higgins explains, "but connected to those who saw them with me, and to the places where we saw them. Cape May New Jersey figures prominently. Other poems describe the 'first sighting' of various rare types of human beings!" Copies of Life List and Higgins's other books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
