Vick Mickunas interviews Téa Obreht about her debut novel The Tiger's Wife.

Vick Mickunas interviews Téa Obreht about her novel The Tiger’s Wife (Random House). The Tiger’s Wife has been one of the most eagerly anticipated novels of 2011. In this interview the author describes how she was able to merge three seemingly disparate story lines into a unified whole. The first story line revolves around a tiger that has escaped from a zoo during a bombing raid. The second element involves a folk legend about a “deathless man” who acts as a harbinger of death in a nameless country in the Balkans. The final component was inspired by the author’s mourning over the death of her grandfather.

This auspicious debut novel could become a classic. Téa Obreht will be signing copies of The Tiger’s Wife at Politics and Prose on Monday, March 28, at 7 p.m.

This interview originally aired on WYSO Public Radio in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
