Historian and former U.S. Foreign Service officer Peter Cozzens is also the author of multiple books, including Shenandoah 1862: Stonewall Jackson’s Valley Campaign, The Darkest Days of the War: The Battles of Iuka and Corinth, and The Shipwreck of Their Hopes: The Battles for Chattanooga. His new work, which completes a trilogy about the U.S. Government’s persecution of Native Americans in the 19th century, is A Brutal Reckoning: Andrew Jackson, the Creek Indians, and the Epic War for the American South. The Wall Street Journal calls the book “a penetrating and fast-paced account...The story of the Creek War is a sorry one, but Cozzens recounts it both with fairness and with a richness of color and detail.” Cozzens discussed A Brutal Reckoning with Stephen Usery during a two-part interview in May.
