Historian and two-time Pulitzer finalist H.W. Brands is the author of multiple bestselling books, including The General vs. the President: MacArthur and Truman at the Brink of Nuclear War and The Zealot and the Emancipator: John Brown, Abraham Lincoln and the Struggle for American Freedom. His latest work is Founding Partisans: Hamilton, Madison, Jefferson, Adams and the Brawling Birth of American Politics, which Kirkus calls “an essential book for understanding the foundation of American partisanship.”
