A Patriotic Pick: December 2022

Whether it’s via their tone, topic, or tenor, certain works just say “America.” Here is one such title, suggested by Grateful American™ Book Prize judge Neme Alperstein, a longtime teacher of gifted and talented students in the New York City Public Schools system:

  • Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Said Michiko Kakutani in the New York Times, “Goodwin’s narrative abilities...are on full display here, and she does an enthralling job of dramatizing...crucial moments in Lincoln’s life” during the dark days of the Civil War, when the nation’s very existence was at stake. The book is “a portrait of [the president] as a virtuosic politician and managerial genius.”

Each year, the Grateful American™ Foundation, through its Book Prize, honors excellence in children’s historical nonfiction and fiction focused on the people and events that have shaped the U.S. since its birth. To learn more about the prize, click here.
