Sunday December 8th at 4pm, THE HOT L POETS SERIES returns, making its cool-weather move to Bird in Hand Coffee & Books. This months’ featured poets are Moira Egan and Joseph J. Capista. The reading includes an open mic so bring a poem (1 poem, 3 min. or less). The reading series is co-sponsored by Smartish Pace & Baltimore Poets Theatre. Moira Egan is the author of Amore e Morte (Tlon, 2022) and her tenth poetry collection, The Furies, is forthcoming from LSU Press in 2025. Her work appears in numerous anthologies, most recently Best Spiritual Literature (Orison, 2024), Divining Dante (Recent Work, 2021) and Poems of Rome (Everyman, Knopf, 2018). In 2023, Egan won the Raiziss/de Palchi Translation Fellowship of the Academy of American Poets for her translations of the poetry of Giorgiomaria Cornelio. Egan was a finalist for the 2024 Erskine J. Poetry Prize and her work appears in the new issue of Smartish Pace. A graduate of the Writing Seminars of Johns Hopkins University, she lives in Rome. Joseph J. Capista is the author of Intrusive Beauty, selected by Beth Ann Fennelly for Ohio University Press’s 2018 Hollis Summers Poetry Prize. Hi poems have appeared in AGNI, The Georgia Review, The Hudson Review, Smartish Pace, Ploughshares, Poetry Daily, and Slate. Prose by Capista has appeared in the Baltimore Sun. A recipient of awards from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, the Maryland State Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, Capista holds an MFA from Warren Wilson College. He and his spouse are longtime residents of Baltimore, where they raise their daughters. Capista teaches creative writing and expository writing at Towson University. |
