P&P Live!: Lauren Francis-Sharma - Book of the Little Axe - in conversation with Dolen Perkins-Valdez

This event will be streamed online as part of our P&P Live! Series.

Francis-Sharma, proprietor of the D.C. Writers' Room and assistant director of the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, combines meticulous research with the accomplished storytelling of her 'Til The Well Runs Dry, for a compelling narrative charting the intertwined histories of the Caribbean and the American West. Based in part on the life of Edward Rose, son of a white trader and a Cherokee-Black woman, the novel follows his wife, Rosa Rendón, the independent-minded daughter of a family of free Black landowners, as she leaves Trinidad in the unsettled period following the island’s transition from Spanish to British rule for Bighorn, Montana. But in order for her son to complete his coming-of-age rites, she has to resolve certain questions in her own past, necessitating a return to her homeland.

Dunbar will be in conversation with Dolen Perkins-Valdez, author of Wench.
