The four authors—Brazile, a Democratic political strategist and TV commentator; Caraway, a public relations executive and Democratic strategist; Daughtry, a preacher, organizer, and CEO of the 2008 and 2016 Democratic National Conventions; and Moore, a former assistant to Bill Clinton—are among the most accomplished and influential African-American women in politics today. Though they have distinct approaches and experiences, their joint memoir/history highlights much that they have in common, from their upbringing in families engaged in the struggle for civil rights to their inspiration by Betty Shabazz, Coretta Scott King, and Myrlie Evers to their three-decades of campaign work for figures ranging from Jesse Jackson and Dukakis to Obama and Hillary Clinton. Truly trail-blazers, these women have an important message for coming generations on how to “dare to enter the halls of power.”
