Meet Jerome F. Buting

  • March 1, 2017

The author of Illusion of Justice comes to DC on Fri., Mar. 3rd, at 7PM.

Meet Jerome F. Buting

In theory, a defendant in a U.S. court of law is presumed innocent until proven guilty. But in practice, the assumption is often that the accused is guilty. This is just one flaw in the criminal justice system, and Buting, a criminal defense lawyer for more than four decades, reports many more. Drawing from his early career as a public defender and his later work as defense attorney for Steven Avery, subject of the NetFlix production "Making a Murderer," Buting combines reportage, reflection, and critical commentary for an urgent call to action on reforming the American legal system.

Buting will be in conversation with Carrie Johnson, former Washington Post and Legal Times reporter, now NPR’s justice correspondent.

This event is free to attend with no reservation required.
