Meet Washington, DC's newest bookshop, Upshur Street Books.
Washington, DC, is already the nation’s most literate city, and now it boasts another indie bookstore where dedicated readers can get their fix. The brand-new Upshur Street Books in Petworth threw open its doors in November, and it’s already becoming a neighborhood gathering spot.
“A lot of the people who have come in are excited about having a place to go to talk about that great book they just finished,” says store manager Anna Thorn.
Although the shop has seen a “higher than usual” hipster contingent, Thorn says there’s no typical customer — just lots of folks who love to read.
“We curate our selection so that you’re sure to find something good, and possibly something you never would have known about otherwise,” she adds. “And we’re always ready to give our advice or to discuss books.”
