The 2020 Washington Writers Conference Is Canceled

This decision, though difficult, is the right one.

It’s with sadness and with thanks to our exceptionally creative organizing committee and the speakers and agents who were coming that we announce the 2020 Washington Writers Conference is canceled.

The governor of Maryland says it’s necessary to halt transmission of the coronavirus. It's the right thing to do. We're proud to stand with him.

Staying Together as We Distance Ourselves

We ask those in our writing community who are already registered to do nothing, allowing us to roll your registration forward to the spring 2021 conference, also to be held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center (date coming soon). This will help insulate you from next year’s price increase and help us maintain stability.

At the best of times, small arts nonprofits like the Independent struggle to stay afloat. Frankly, not being able to host our annual conference is a body blow. If you can invest in us for next year, we’d appreciate it immensely.

Either way, thank you for believing in us enough to register or to consider it.

If you do need your money back, please be patient. We mostly run on volunteer power, and we must also get our deposit back from the hotel. Contact us at editor@washingtonindependentreviewofbooks.com with questions.

(We hope to thank those who roll over their registration with a free opportunity to talk with agents via Skype later this year. To prepare, if you aren’t already on Skype, sign up for free and practice by calling a friend. Stay tuned and stay well!)
