An occasional series in which writers speak for themselves.
A longtime journalist and editor-at-large of Outside magazine, Hampton Sides is also the author of several books, including Hellhound on His Trail: The Electrifying Account of the Largest Manhunt in American History, Americana: Dispatches from the New Frontier, and In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette. His latest nonfiction work is The Wide Wide Sea: Imperial Ambition, First Contact and the Fateful Final Voyage of Captain James Cook, which Booklist calls “beautifully written and impeccably researched.” Sides discussed The Wide Wide Sea with Stephen Usery during a two-part interview in May.
