WRITING FOR US
We accept submissions or pitches for content, but please note: This does not include book reviews, which are assigned in-house. (Want to review for us? Cool! Send clips and ask about a possible assignment.) What we are looking for are pieces about books, authors, reading, and writing. These may be essays, lists, book news, event coverage, interviews, etc. We’re open to all good ideas, so if you’ve got one, tell us about it. We pay $25 per accepted submission; there’s no kill fee. Email [email protected]. We will respond to all serious, non-spammy inquiries, but please be patient. We’re perpetually swamped!

RIGHTS
The Contributor shall retain copyright ownership of all original works submitted for possible publication by the Washington Independent Review of Books (“the Independent”). Upon submission of any work by Contributor, the Independent shall have first worldwide publication rights to publish the work in the Independent or another publication owned by the Independent and, in conjunction with its other publishing activities, to reproduce, distribute, promote, or display the work. If work published in the Independent is later reprinted in another publication, please include the following language somewhere in the reprinted work: “This piece originally appeared in the Washington Independent Review of Books.”

Finished copies, galleys, chapbooks, and publishers’ catalogs (no unbound manuscripts, please) can be mailed to the address below. We’re sorry that we cannot acknowledge receipt of unsolicited review copies. (NOTE: Submitting a book DOES NOT guarantee it will be reviewed or otherwise covered.)
