Details Rob Riemen - "To Fight Against This Age: On Fascism and Humanism" The two eloquent essays of Riemen’s book explore the history of fascism, identify its strategies, define its theoretical weakness, and offer a vision of the values that can vanquish it. In “The Eternal Return of Fascism,” Riemen, the author of Nobility of Spirit and founder of the Nexus Institute, considers today’s resurgence of fascism as nothing less than the spiritual crisis of our age. Its rise depends on a politics of resentment and anger, and it thrives on xenophobia and scapegoating. The alternative is humanism, whose values of truth, beauty, justice, and love of life are also those of democratic civilization itself. Riemen will be in conversation with Sidney Blumenthal, a journalist and author of A Self-Made Man and Wrestling with His Angel, the first two of a projected four-volume political biography of Lincoln. This event is free to attend with no reservation required. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
