Details James S. Romm - "Seneca's How to Die: An Ancient Guide to the End of Life" Seneca (c. 4 BC–AD 65) the Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, and dramatist (notably, of tragedies), never wrote a book called How to Die but he meditated on the subject frequently. Now gathered together in one volume for the first time, Seneca’s writings on death chart the development of his philosophy and outline the thinker’s own journey toward the inevitable. Newly translated, introduced, and annotated by Romm, a Bard classics professor and author of Dying Every Day: Seneca at the Court of Nero, the book also includes the original Latin text and an epilogue with Tacitus’s description of Seneca’s suicide. This event is free to attend with no reservation required. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
