Details Laura Wides-Muñoz - "The Making of a Dream: How a Group of Young Undocumented Immigrants Helped Change What It Means to Be American" A chronicle of the next chapter of the American civil rights story, Wides-Munoz’s book starts with the Millennial “Dream Act” proposal designed to give permanent legal protection to the more than half a million young immigrants who have spent most of their lives in this country but lack official documents. As of 2012, this population had achieved the provisional protection of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Act (DACA), a status Trump’s election has made precarious. Focusing on five Dreamers from across Latin America, Wides-Muñoz shows in detail how debates over immigration policy affect real lives even as she introduces a group of activists who are changing the way we think about immigration. This event is free to attend with no reservation required. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
