| Details | Every great nonfiction book — from history and science to business and self-improvement — starts with an even greater book proposal. That’s what industry experts use to identify the projects they want to promote. Without a book proposal (or with a weak one), there will be no massive advance, no bestselling book, no blowout book party, and no adoring readers! So mark your calendar for Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018! That’s when the Independent will host a $79 half-day workshop at the Town Hall in Garrett Park, MD, covering everything you need to know to write a killer nonfiction-book proposal. Our speakers have decades of experience with nonfiction books of all kinds, and from all perspectives: Deborah Grosvenor, Literary Agent: Based in the DC area, Deborah has represented heavyweight nonfiction writers like Eleanor Clift, Morton Kondracke, Thomas Oliphant, Henry Allen, Thomas Fleming, Willard Randall, Peter Cozzens, and Meg Noonan. Paul Dickson, Author: The author of more than 60 nonfiction books, Paul has concentrated on narrative nonfiction (Leo Durocher: Baseball’s Prodigal Son; Sputnik: The Shock of the Century) and a broad range of reference and novelty books, including The Dickson Baseball Dictionary and Toasts, with over 400,000 hardcover copies in print. Ken Ackerman, Author: Ken, a lawyer as well as a writer, is the author of five works of narrative history. Boss Tweed: The Rise and Fall of the Corrupt Pol Who Conceived the Soul of Modern New York, was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. Robert Faherty, Publisher: For more than 25 years, Bob directed Brookings Institution Press, which publishes up to 50 nonfiction titles every year, and was president of the American Association of University Presses.
