The Washington Independent Review of Books welcomes Dr. Klein to the February Q&A, About Love. Who better to talk to us about love?
The title says it all. “Marty Klein is a certified sex therapist and sex educator, marriage and family therapist and sociologist who has heard almost every story, desire, fantasy … and helped thousands of people find the keys to genuine sexual satisfaction.” The Washington Independent Review of Books welcomes Dr. Klein to the February Q&A, About Love. Who better to talk to us about love?
Marty Klein, Ph.D. is the author of Sexual Intelligence: What We Really Want From Sex—And How to Get It (HarperOne, February 2012):
February Q&A About Love…
If music be the fruit of love, play ___________________________? (what would you most want to hear?)
What I’d most like to hear is: “Again, please.”
What is the greatest love prose you’ve ever read? Who wrote it? Please quote a few lines?
“What’s important in this life? Ask the man who’s lost his wife”
–The Pretenders (Chrissie Hynde)
Is your imagination of love – your ability to write about it – greater than your experience?
It better be. No one can experience the full range of love’s forms. Art enables our imagination to live a thousand lives, loving and being loved in a thousand ways.
Have you ever fallen for a character? Who? How does he or she compare to the real love of your life?
Myrna Loy in the “Thin Man” films. Smart, funny, great vocabulary, energetic even late at night. That, of course, is the definition of sexy.
What are the words that you can’t imagine ever being associated with love?
I don’t care.
With a nod to Yeats – If “love comes in at the eye, how does it go out …. (please imagine the rest of this sentence)
It goes out from every pore. The skin is our largest organ, and we need every one of those 2,000 square inches to express love adequately.
Does love have its own language?
Love is a language. It’s a form of communication, a way of simultaneously shaping and expressing our experience.
