5 Most Popular June Posts

We here at the Independent love every piece we run. There are no winners or losers. Having said that, here are June’s winners.

5 Most Popular June Posts

  1. “Amazon Must Be Stopped.” Do you share our righteous indignation at Amazon’s strong-arming of Hachette? You do! And even though this battle is more “Goliath vs. Goliath” than “David vs. Goliath” (Hachette isn’t exactly a mom-and-pop operation), nobody likes a bully.
  2. “Poetry Exemplars.” As usual, Grace Cavalieri’s monthly ode to all things versey and coupleted drew big numbers. Shall we compare her to a summer’s day? We shall.
  3. “Your Club in Lights.” Something about the Georgetown-based “Doesn’t Have an Official Name” Book Club sure got you clicking and sharing. Is it because you secretly wish you could hang out in Georgetown, sip wine, and discuss great novels? We know we do.
  4. David Bruce Smith’s review of Let’s Just Say It Wasn’t Pretty by Diane Keaton. She may forever be Annie Hall or Kay Corleone to some, but interest in Diane Keaton the person drew loads of fans to Smith’s excellent review of the actress’ latest memoir.
  5. An interview with author Gillian Marchenko. This fascinating Q&A — in which Marchenko discusses writing her way to acceptance of her daughter’s Down syndrome — posted on the last day of June, but it immediately drew scores of readers. Clearly, it touched a nerve.
